The Pasadena Playhouse Historic District contains approximately 34 buildings, which represent the eastward growth of the City’s urban core during the 1920s and 1930s, after Pasadena’s economy had changed from agriculture to tourism. During this period of development, Art Deco architecture was gaining popularity and was the chosen style for several commercial buildings in the District. This walking tour includes some notable landmarks designed in the style, including the Scottish Rite Temple, the United Artist Theater, and the Warner Building plus many other notable buildings of the period that are on the route. Join us as we explore Art Deco in this historic district (both old and new!), learn about the prominent architects behind their design, and hear about Pasadena Heritage’s involvement in the preservation and development of these buildings!

Tours last approximately 1.5 hours with a walking distance of approximately 1 mile. For the comfort of all our guests, dogs are not permitted on Pasadena Heritage walking tours.
