Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon
To Preserve Wildfire History
The recent fires have had a profound impact on our communities, altering landscapes and erasing parts of our shared history. Join us for a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon at Blinn House on April 26 to help document and preserve what was lost.
Participants will upload photos, expand articles, and create new Wikipedia pages about the fire’s impact, casualties, and historical significance. Experienced Wikipedia editors will be available to guide the process; all skill levels are welcome.
Bring your laptop – Wi-Fi will be available.

4:00-4:30 PM: Meet up for a brief tour of Central Park’s history,
setting the stage for the rest of the evening’s events.
4:30-5:15 PM: A tour with our Partners at Castle Green, the 1887 marvel of Moorish, Spanish, and Victorian design that helped establish Pasadena as a tourist destination for the wealthy and those who wanted to live the dream.
5:30- 7:30 PM: Sunset Lawn Bowling at the Pasadena Lawn Bowling & Croquet Club. Enjoy one of the most popular sports of the turn of the century, still practiced today, including a picnic dinner of Mexican food, Chicken, and Pie! Feel free to come in Victorian garb or your Lawn Bowling Whites and a straw hat! Learn about the oldest Lawn Bowling Club west of the Mississippi and why it is on our watch list.

1:00-6:00 PM: Adena Mansion House Tours - This magnificent Queen Anne with Gothic Revival, Eastlake, and Italianate elements is one of the earliest structures (1885-87) built in Garfield Heights has been closed to the public for two decades. We are thrilled to offer this exclusive tour of the house, a private residence often featured in films, such as the “Salem Haunted House” episode in Parks & Recreation.
1:30-6:00 PM: Garfield Heights Over the Decades: A Walking Tour of the Garfield Heights Landmark District, where you can witness the evolution of this neighborhood, Pasadena's second-oldest designated landmark district, from the Victorian era to the Arts & Crafts movement between the 1890s and 1910. This tour, presented by our partners at the Garfield Heights Neighborhood Association, concludes at Pasadena Heritage Executive Director’s 1904 American Foursquare home, where you'll enjoy cookies, lemonade, and backyard games of bocce ball and horseshoes, typical pastimes of the era.

1:00-6:00 PM: We are proud to partner with the Glendale Historical Society as they host a special event for our Victorian Weekend, opening their Doctors House, a beautiful example of Queen Anne and Eastlake Styles in Brand Park, Glendale. Bring a picnic and enjoy an afternoon of classic lawn games, plein air painting, and reading (while supplies last). Step back in time and experience the charm of the Victorian era in a picturesque setting!

Our sister organization, Los Angeles Conservancy, is kicking off its popular series, Last Remaining Seats, at the historic Orpheum Theatre, which turns 100 next year! This opulent 1926 theatre was the final home of the famed vaudeville circuit in L.A. and remains one of only a few historic theatres across the country still featuring a Mighty Wurlitzer organ. Join us on the VIP tour, lunch and show!
Itinerary:
· We will meet at the Fillmore Station of the Metro (95 Fillmore St, Pasadena- with free parking) at 9:45 AM
· We will travel together to 7th & Metro Station
· As we exit on 7th Street where, just next door, we will tour the Fine Arts Building Lobby (811 W 7TH St) - A three-story masterpiece covered in Batchelder Tile with a history of the site and Batchelder’s work here.
· We will walk to 7th & Fig, just two blocks away, for top-quality Mendocino Farms sandwiches and salads with gluten-free and vegan options.
· Then, we will walk the six blocks to the Orpheum Theatre, passing a Whole Foods if you want some gourmet movie candy!
· We will get the VIP treatment with early admission and reserved seats. Zoot will provide a quick tour and explain the history of the theatre, which went from Vaudeville House to an early LA model for Adaptive Reuse with Preservation.
· We will watch the silent comedy “The Freshman” with Harold Lloyd to live music from the Mighty Wurlitzer organ. If you have never seen a silent comedy in a movie palace with live accompaniment from a theatre organ, you are in for a big treat!
· Anyone in our group who is not yet an LA Conservancy member can get a membership discount at the event!
· We will return on the metro to Fillmore, arriving back by 6 PM.
